OPEN WATER

This is where it all begins. A very enjoyable combination of knowledge and skills, this class introduces you to the mystery of the underwater world. Taught in a safe and supportive environment with classes consisting of eight students or less, we allow you to learn and develop your skills in two nights of classroom and two nights of pool sessions in an indoor heated pool. The check-out dives are held at Balmorhea State Park, in the clear, balmy 76° waters of San Solomon Springs.

As long as you are at least 10 years of age, in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water, you can earn this certification. The only physical requirement is that you be able to swim 200 yards without aid and be able to float/tread water for 10 minutes. For equipment, you will need a mask, snorkel, fins, and scuba boots. Please feel free to make an appointment to come in to the store and be custom fitted for those items. Once you choose a suitable set of personal gear, we will give you a package discount on your purchase. We provide all other gear at no additional cost! When you earn this certification, you will have the freedom to rent or purchase gear at our shop and worldwide, and to dive to a maximum depth of sixty feet without the aid and direction of an instructor.

Current pricing is $225 for the class, which includes all study materials and equipment with the exception of mask, snorkel, fins, and scuba boots. You will also be responsible for food, hotel, and travel. Check our calendar for upcoming classes or call for special reservations.
